6 Essential, Free Apps for Summer

Today Apple commemorates  the App Store’s 5th Anniversary. Starting Monday Apple began making some of its most popular apps free for a limited time only in celebration of the anniversary.  So far the list includes top iOS apps and games like Badland, Infinity Blade II, Superbrothers: Sword and Sworcery EP, Tiny Wings, Where’s My Water?, Barefoot World Atlas, Day One, Over, Traktor DJ for iPad, Knots 3D, How to Cook Everything, Liquid Sketch and MapMyRide+ , but the list is still growing. As we wait for an official list to drop, I decided to make a list of my own featuring my top essential apps for summer.  Enjoy! – Alexis

 

 1.) Vine - This original looping seven second video app connects users by sharing clips from day to day life. Check up on your favorite celebrities like Tyra Banks, or see funny sketches from up and coming comedians like Brittany Fulan.

2.)  Soundhound - Have you ever been riding in the car when you hear an amazing new song on the radio, but you have no idea what it’s called? Well don’t fret, Soundhound is here to save the day. This app will identify almost any song including you’re own humming plus show you lyrics in time with the music, making this app a music lover’s dream .

3.) Ultraviolet – UV Index - When you look at someone with a horrible sunburn you just wanna say “Ouch”!  Steer clear of unwanted burning and peeling by measuring the suns UV index in any location with this handy app. It even displays helpful hints on how to protect yourself from the rays.

4.) GasBuddy - Gas is expensive! So why not find the cheapest gas near you and join over 30 million drivers using GasBuddy. Earn points and awards  for reporting and posting gas prices.There’s even a chance you could win up to $250 gas a week.

5.) Kayak - Manage your summer vacation with “The #1 Mobile Travel App” that lets you search and book your flights, compare hotel and car rental deals, manage your itinerary, look up baggage fees and much more. 

6.) Battery Life Pro - There’s no point to having all of these amazing apps if your phone dies. Monitor your data usage, keep track of charging time and find out tips on how to maximize your battery life with this app.
